Who could be the right player to take Rooney’s place while he's on the bench or in the stands?

What player do you think has the ability to do what Rooney does for the team? I.e. push the attack up, play on the right or left side, first striker or second striker, score those vital goals and even drop back to help the defence. Which United player is capable of doing all those parts in a 90 min match? Hmmmm... Obertan maybe???

There is no one. Rooney is an original player. I haven't seen what Obertan can do, but right now it looks like tactics simply have to change when he isn't on the field. Unless someone else is brought in.

The player to do it is Federico Macheda. Alex Ferguson is holding him back on purpose this season because he wants Rooney to have a little taste of what it is like to be top dog, but as soon as Macheda is unleashed Rooney will be put right back ob his little leash and only allowed to work hard for the new star Macheda. If Rooney is not ok with the set-up then he will be sent to the reserves for the rest of his career to think about his actions.

Nobody... Rooney can be replaced by nobody, in the world. IMO he's one of the best, and definitely THE best on his day. Losing him would be bad... the only compensation would be buying two really good strikers instead.

Wilshere? You've got to be kidding me... maybe in 10 or so years.
