Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

the game against manchester united showed the 'DEPTH' of the quality at their club is much superior to ours, and the same goes for the options in the bench. While liverpool boast Finnan (30), Carra (29) Hyypia (34), as well as Arbeola and Aurelio, you look at Ferdinand/Vidic (best parnership in the EPL) Evra and Brown. our problem is that the quality at the defense is nowhere near the teams ahead of us in the table. We need another back four who are world class, another world class winger and another world class striker.. NOW.. unless you're Wenger, then we have to SPEND to buy the best players out there or our status, as the biggest club in England, one of the greatest clubs in the world will fade.

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

    man where do i begin?

get rid of Riise end of the season, let Arbeola and Arurelio play for a season more then sell both on, along with Hyypia. Bring in wing backs; someone in Maicon's quality, Lehm, D. Alves, Sagna, or Micah Richards..  bring in a new centre back, prefebly an unknown eastern european like Vidic or a mad african in Kolo Toure's mold.

A world class winger in the shape of Quarisma, Robben, Malouda, Reyes (yes i know the latter 3 are impossible, im just saying we need those type of wingers)

sell Benayon, Crouch, and Kuyte, Buy a world class striker who is POWERFUL, physically strong with an ability in the air (something we completely lack up front- Torres aside), someone similar to Santa cruse and Luca Toni or perhaps Barbatov or Anelka.

we should also keep Mascherano and sell Sissoko, the way liverpool play means we dont actually have a play maker (Alonso aside), we depend too heavily on Gerrard's role as an attacking midfielder  means we are seriously lacking in the creative department; Man United have Anderson, Arsenal got Cesc, Chelsea now have Ballack- all Play makers, rather than attacking midfielders. Gerrard is trully the engine of the team, but if he's unable to create more chances, or if he generally has a bad day the manager could never replace him without getting ganged upon by the media and fans alike. We depend TOO HEAVILY on Gerrard.

concerns over our pace, compared with the rest in the 'big four' we are alarmingly behind. They have pace THROUGHOUT with the exception of their play makers and centre backs, we got Babel (hardly used by Benitez when he clearly deserves to start ahead of Benayon on the right or even Kewl on the left) Torres and that pretty much is all the pace we have.

highly unlikely, i know; our owners- besides not knowing a damn thing about football or how the football market works- are actually struggling financially and it explains why we saw the public warfare between Rafa and Gillet/Hicks played across the media- they expect some kind of an instant return of their investment but we have invested less than our competitors (Arsenal aside, although they, too, splashed out in the summer)- it is easy to point the blame on Rafa, and i too question his team selection and tactics at times, but he remains the man for liverpool because he has a proven track record. What hinders his progress, i believe, is the fact that he is REPEATEDLY forced to bid for his 3rd or 4th choice simply because we cannot compete financially with the financial big guns like Chelsea and Manchester United or other Giants of world club football in AC, Inter, Barca and Real.

In addition to that he has a long running problem with the media for his rotation policy (which he believes necessary when you have a good, as opposed to world class, squad) Rafa is put under more and more undue pressure, at times unfairly, as was the game he substituted Gerrard for Lucas Leiva against Everton, even though it was due to that substitution we won the game. The media it seems forgot he got us to 2 champions league finals in 3 years, more than what Fergie managed in 25 years at Old Trafford.

Especially now, with the news that our club is in financial crises (im sure you've read something about it somewhere). The owners are thought to have bought the club with loans, and its well documented that the U.S. dollar is taking a battering. with hindsite i cannot help by ask myself; Wouldnt it have been better if the club was sold to the sheikhs? its clear for all to see that our previous board chose their own interests over the club's and thats sad.

And to think Rick Perry was in on it too makes me even more sad.

    players out by summer 08:

    2 out of the 3; Crouch, Kuyt, Veronin;

Benayon, Arbeola, Finnan, Aurelio, Hyypia, Sissoko, Riise, Pennant.

its not the fact they arent good, they are. But to be honest, all these players should be either out or on the bench for  World class players.

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

Mascherano is a monster; 1 of the best 3 in his position in the world; Better than Diarra, Gaggo, Sissoko, Denilson, Gattusso, Makalele, Heargreaves and the only defensive midfielder i can think of who is actually better than Macherano is Inter's Cambiasso. 17 Mill is alot of money, but dude you have to spend to land world class players, its as simple as that. Plus, he's only 23 i think so you can still sell him on in 5 years time for a good price should the club wish to use that option.

Lucas has alot to learn but he is worth the 5 mill paid for him, give him the time he needs and you will see just why they made him Brasil's under 20 captain.

i agree with the rest of the players, i wanna see pennant out or on the bench, yes he's good, but good enough to play at wigan, birmingham, bolton- for me he's not world class, and i cant find a place for Benayon- too weak, only has 1 trick and most defenders are on to him; definitely not a winger, his best position would be behind the front two because he has a good eye for short passes (when he decides not to go for it himself as he is as guilty as Kuyt and torres for wasting chances). We already have Gerrard's runs through the middle.

yea i see. just mascherano has yet to do sumthing to convince me. benayoun is good for backup. not 1st team. i read a rumour that if we dont buy any "World Class" players this window it will mean that rafa will get the sack at the end of the season. Cause the owners want to save their money for the new manager that mite come in.

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

they put in 50 mill, in reality we need another 60 mill and we should have a much much better team capable of challenging. If Rafa was told he was free to get whoever (which would have been the case had the club been sold to the Dubai Sheikh), then you watch who Rafa would get you. Its different, when your completely backed financially you can do more than if you're repeatedly forced to go for your 3rd or 4th choice player. Man United went on to splash in excess of 30 million on Rooney, ferdinand, 30 million on nani and anderson, 24 mill for Heargreaves?, 17 million for ronaldo-  dude they have players who sit on the bench like carrick 16 million-we are talking about a team that has soooo oooo much money invested into it- this is what we need, heavy investment.

stability and heavy investment will land us the EPL, not a regime change. it took Fergi 5 years.

you must have watched the CL final last yr, Mascherano was limiting Kaka's threat until he was replaced. The goal came 5 minutes or so after Mascherano was substituted- nobody could stop Kaka.

The top 3 have world class players in alot of departments, we will soon find ourselves struggling for 4th because we're dragging ourselves into the new pack chasing(portsmouth, Aston Villa, Man City, and Tottenham) their spending is getting bigger every year. We need more investment into the playing staff or we've had it.

    good point.

and ur rite the chasing pack is spending and is gaining on us real quick. i just think they're limiting the money they're giving rafa cause they may have anotha manager lined up....mourinho nxt season?

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

personally i believe Rafa has done more than enough since he's been here to justify his stay, he turned down Real Madrid and not many managers can do that these days, sacking him is not the right reward. Man everyone knows the key to success is stability and it takes time- look at Arsene wenger and Fergi, they been there the longest, Mourinho was an instant hit only because he was BACKED all the way in the transfer market from the very beginning.

anyway, i cant even comprehend having another manager for another season at least. I doubt Mourinho would be interested because he will not get on with a board which does not like to spend.

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

Really now, what players do Benitez need?  He already has a greatly increased squad in terms of talent from the year he won the CL with the so called best squad in Europe.

Liverpool fans ahve to realise that this was always Benitez's weakness, he's a cup specialist...he can win all the cups in Europe, but when it comes to league trophies, he will find it another kettle of fish.  He can learn a few things from managers like Ferguson, Wenger and Capello

    JOGO BONITA!
