well livo have shot themselves in the foot yet again in the league. Would be surprising to see them vying for top honours in may again. Good goal by harper tho. And of course brilliant goal by Gerrard. Good control and vision from torres on that action.

But livo's starting 11 didnt give them any favours aswell, way too central, i know Rafa had the Marseille and Man utd game in head when making the selection, but he never gave his team a chance at a tough task in getting three points at the madjeski. The lost surely isnt what livo wanted before their make or brake game at the Velodrome.

see thats the problem with us- when we get a chance to reduce the deficit something goes wrong and we never seize our chances. This keeps happening season after season after season.

but im an optimist- least when its liverpool in question, its a good thing to see arsenal lose today, means we can still go 4 points behind should we win our game in hand, plus we'l have the chance to reduce the gap to a single point if we beat Manchester United on super sunday.

critical period ahead with tough fixtures. Will we come out on top?

Re: LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL THREAD

Yup the game in hand would be more important to stay in contention than to gain points if you can't beat Man United...However, Marseille will determine the fate of Liverpool's season unless they can delay the inevitable ~ yet another "failed" season.  To be honest it is quite dissapointing to see Liverpool lack of competitiveness in the league, season after season allowing Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United to control the bulk of trophies.

The real critical period starts now for Liverpool and not really Christmas like most other EPL teams like Man City and those immediately below them.  Man City needs ELano back immediately like Arsenal and Cesc Fabregas.  Liverpool won't be claiming any EPL trophy though based on their form and results so far.  They've played some good football, some inconsistent football and once or twice, some bad football and they've not been close enough to the top so far, so they'll have to play tremendous football to reach the top of this EPL table.

I give Benitez one or two more season to win the EPL, then it's most likely on to Spain's national team or back to La Liga...Valencia may take him back!  However, top clubs will not tolerate that rotation policy during important competitions.  Varying your squad for a FA Cup game, Carling Cup game, meaningless CL games and against weak opposition is far different from playing with your best players on the bench in critical games.  He won't be lucky enough to win the CL again and FA Cup and Carling cups especially will not do.  His recent tirades will not have gone unnoticed either and heap pressure on himself IF he is given the money to reinforce his squad and still fail.

Pay attention to Mourinho ~  250+ million and no champions league plus an obvious decline in performances = exit!  Watch out Rafael Benitez, be careful what you ask for...you might actually get it....

I think Benitez is close to the door now, he bought so many players in the last few years (strikers especially) without much results (except the 2005 CL which was a very good result I admit) that the owners will have a right to be wary of him, especially now that he asks (again) for new players in january.

Management will tell you that Liverpool were very fortunate to gain that result for the 2005 CL...

But that aside, he is not on good footing no matter what is said in the media and an unfavourable result in Marseille this week will undoubtedly put him under pressure to win the EPL or the FA Cup.  If Benitez is at Liverpool after thjs season, i would be very surprised, but if he's there after another season after this, he should count his abundant blessings and be grateful for life

to say liverpool were lucky to win CL is disrespectful. But to speak off Benitez the way you are shows the ignorance you have of this football club. This man has took us to 7 finals since he's been here, and spent less than Chelsea and Man Utd to achieve that. What he did with liverpool in the champoins league is more than what fergi did with Man U in his two decades at the club as far as europe is concerned. Fergi

to hear he's under pressure is the work of the media, who overblow everything but the point here is that since he's been at this football club, liverpool have gained that respectability which lacked during his predecessors time.. and he did this in 3 seasons. Liverpool fans should be grateful he's here, but then again, you're not a liverpool fan so wouldnt expect you to know that.

interesting, but he did something similar at Valencia...that's my basis.  I don't think many teams will come from 3-0 down and especially a liverpool team, so...fortune, if you're going to say it was purely skill, tactics and players then Benitez do not need anymore players then.

Anyhow, i know Benitez is a cup specialist!

I know liverpool fans should be grateful he's there, but that doesn't mean you can't want more....remember liverpool have not won the EPL in over 15 years.

    and we will.

and we did win!!! hate to say it but ... I TOLD YOU SO!!!

What Benitez did in 2005 was, he got a good squad to a champions league final, and won against a superior team.. and it wasnt skill that made us win, it was attitude that night; never die, never say never.   at 3-0 down we obviously needed to score 3 goals at least, and we did. the goals didnt come out of luck, we took our chances. i consider Man Utd winning their CL final as more to do with luck, for they got dominated from start to finish, up until the last 2 minutes of the game.

Rafa is a cup specialist i agree, but dont forget he took valencia to la liga title too. the point here is, every manager needs time. this is rafa's 4th season, another couple of seasons with him is the least we could do for a manager who turned down Real Madrid. If he can show US that kind of committment, it would be nothing short of BETRAYAL if the owners decide to let him go.

what he did for this club is trully worth praising, and im sure there is alot more to come from him, give him the time Fergi had.. he already surpassed fergi in europe.. more time is needed for the EPL.

oh come on mate. 6 min vs 118 min... Not lucky at all right? Especially with the Gerrard "penalty" (notice the emphasis on "penalty", almost as if i meant it wasnt one :P). Remember the chelsea "goal"(notice i put emphasis on "goal" as if there wasnt ever one". Remember? Not lucky to score a last gasp winner in your last group game. Its all the attitude of course. Man utd Trashing Juve 3-2 at home, beating barca, beating Inter 2-0, WE were the lucky ones. Our luck also transpired in us winning the treble i guess. fa cup and league was also luck. We'll see who's lucky sunday eh mate? llol

Only a Man Utd would call a narrow 3-2 win a 'thrashing'

listen you red devil, we came back  from 3-0 down, and we scored 3 goals.. and all you can do is moan about the penalty? you wanna talk about luck, Byern should have smashed you to bits, they dominated the entire game only for you to come back in the last 2 minutes to score to lucky goals. you had 2 minutes in the 92 played. At least with us, the size of the deficit was too big and we workd haaard to score 3 goals.

you wanna talk about luck then why not mention how lucky you guys were when you beat us with an O'SHIIIIT goal in the last minute? in a game we outplayed you in.

forget the chelsea goal, the referee doesnt have a hi-tech eye, if referee's did, they would have seen how much of a diver ronaldo is, or at least point to the fact we conceded a penalty which was never a penalty against reading last week.. or When was the last time you conceded a penalty in the EPL? tells its own story.. These things happen and you dont see me moan about them.

will be good to see how we can play against man u even with the alonso and agger injured. cant wait

first of all, that game was a trashing. We came back from 2-0 against Juve in Turin. And that game was nothing like the istanbul fluke. we had the bulk of chances. Our goals werent stretched on a 6 min moment of inspiration. PIppo' 2nd goal was total luck. Roy Keane was the best player in the world on that day, if it was that day only, then what a performance. We won everything that year, how that can be lucky is beyond me. Winning cup competitions out of the blue like livo do is closer to luck imo, but it isnt all luck of course.

O'shea has gotten 4 goals last season out of 5 shots. Hardly luck. He's there to pounce on loose balls. Livo didnt put the game away, but that wasnt luck of course. :P

We have scholes and nevs out. So the game should be balanced in terms of injuries, no excuses.

We got several pens called against us last season, cant remember how many we got this year so far, i dont care really.
