22] Rooney thanks Scholes for pass
    Wednesday, April 25, 2007

"I see him do it every day in training. He's brilliant. He is a joy to play with, a genius. It's a great feeling. It was a difficult match but when it got late we kept going. We knew the victory would make it a little bit easier for the away leg. And to get a goal in the last minute is a great feeling. It was fantastic. At 2-1 behind at half-time against a very good Milan team, we knew it would be difficult to get the win. The manager told us to keep pushing, keep going and we'll get the goals, and we did."

I'd waited long enough. I fucking hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that, you ***. And don't ever stand over me again sneering about fake injuries.”

    Carlo Ancelotti

"Manchester United probably do have a slight advantage. We are disappointed about their winning goal because I felt we had the match pretty much in hand. It seemed we were going to get a good result but that goal has complicated matters. It is difficult to say whether the result would have been the same if those two (Gattuso and Maldini) had stayed on the pitch but quite clearly, you are going to miss players of that experience"

    [2] Giggs
    Wednesday, April 25, 2007

"It was always going to be tough. We didn't want to give away goals but we've got to go out there with confidence. With the second half in mind, we know that if we keep the tempo up and keep our shape we've got a great chance of creating chances. We'll probably have to defend better, but we're capable of doing that. It's going to be difficult, it always is going to the San Siro, but we've seen enough in the second half to show that we can go there and get a good result. If we keep our character and nerve then hopefully we will. We got off to a great start. Milan hit us with a bit of a sucker punch with the two goals, but in the second half we kept playing our football, kept the intensity up and we're pleased to get the two goals. We wanted to keep a clean sheet, away goals are key in this competition. We didn't want to give away one goal, let alone two, so that knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit. In the second half we showed a lot of patience and character. We just felt that we could create chances by not panicking and keeping our shape, and that's what happened. We feel that we're going to create chances every time we go out. Milan are a quality team so when you get those chances you have to put them away, and we put most of them away. To score so late on showed great character and ended the game on a high."

[55] Wenger suggests... Fergie as manager of the year
    Thursday, April 26, 2007

"I feel this year Sir Alex Ferguson, because he's in a position to fight on every front, and Steve Coppell, who is in a position where nobody expected him to be and has a team who does not play negatively - they have a positive attitude everywhere they go. This year we had a massive disappointment, I feel overall, especially in going out of the Champions League the way we went out. But it's part of a growing process as well to handle this kind of disappointment and to still not let your disappointment stop your progression."

Milan's Kaka hails Man Utd's 'Brazilian style'

AC Milan's Brazilian superstar Kaka believes Manchester United have overtaken Arsenal as the Premiership's most stylish side. The 25-year-old got a first-hand look at Sir Alex Ferguson's men on Tuesday as his side crashed 3-2 at Old Trafford in a thrilling Champions League semi-final first leg.

Kaka was arguably the star of the show with a first-half brace, but he saw enough of United to convince him they would not look out of place at Rio's famous Maracana.

'I watch the Premiership and I see Manchester United in England as the most Brazilian-like in their style,' he told the Daily Telegraph.

'Obviously, Ronaldo and Rooney are very skilful, but they all play well with the ball on the floor.

'They play the passing game. They did not use any long balls against us.

'People always say that Arsenal play a Brazilian style of football, but I think Manchester United are more Brazilian in their way of playing than the Arsenal players are.'

Kaka also hailed United's fans for their vocal performance on Tuesday night.

'I was particularly impressed with the singing of the Manchester fans at half-time, especially as their team was 2-1 down,' he added.

'This is one of the great things about Premiership fans. They have such passion for their team. I love that kind of atmosphere.'

The Champions League's top scorer this season has predicted an equally attacking second leg when the sides reconvene on Wednesday night at the San Siro.

Kaka said: 'The two teams are very similar, both very strong, who both espouse an attacking brand of football.

'We are two teams who instinctively like to come forward and attack. I think the combination of the teams makes it a joy to watch.

'You could never hold back and settle for a draw against a team like Manchester United.

'The second leg will be an exciting match, because it would always be this way whenever these two teams of players meet.

'But we are going to go for the kill in the San Siro, to win outright.'

    [15] Wayne on Wednesday
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"Going back to Milan is a big task because when we went there two years ago and lost we struggled a bit.

"The likes of myself, Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher were young lads at the time and it showed when we played such an experienced Milan side with players like Paolo Maldini.

"But we've grown up since then and matured as a team. We also never know when we are beaten. Hopefully we can go to Milan on Wednesday and finish the job."

[14] Wayne keen to take some cash of Fergie
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"People have been criticising me for not scoring enough, and it's true it does bother me when I'm not hitting the back of the net.

"But I am on a nice little run and hopefully I can keep it going and win the bet I've had with the manager. There's not a lot of money involved, but it's a nice little incentive. The most important thing is that the team keeps winning, but if I am scoring goals then I'm doing my bit.

"I've now got 23 for the season and I really think 25 is attainable for me. Hopefully I might even score more than that.

    13] Fergie: A great chance
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"I wouldn't say we are favourites, but we have given ourselves a great chance.

"What we have to do is to cross the same line that we crossed in 1999 when we went to Juventus and had to win. We have to step up a gear when we go to the San Siro.

"I think there is every chance we will concede and that means we will have to score ourselves. We will be going with an attitude to do that."

    [12] Fergie on Scholes dilema
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"I have got to think of the team and so it is up to Paul Scholes to make sure he doesn't get booked."

"That, without question, the only advice I can give him - and Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo, who go into the game on yellow cards - not to slide into tackles.

"That's where Paul gets all his bookings. In Europe, they don't accept sliding in. If Paul stays on his feet and tackles properly he won't have a problem.

"He deserves a European final more than anyone and we are all hoping that's the case. If he keeps his calm about the game he'll be all right, I'm sure of that."

"I don't see any benefit for Milan trying to get Paul or any of our players booked because the second leg will already be in process and only one team will go to the final. I have to say Milan don't seem to be that kind of side anyway.

"Paul made some good tackles in the first game and stayed on his feet, but you can't go up to a player in a European Cup semi-final and tell him not to tackle. He played the game the right way in the first leg, but it's when he slides into tackles that he has problems because of how they view that in Europe.

"It's just interpretation. It's not filthy or violent conduct, it's just that he slides in and foreign referees don't accept it."

    [9] Ancelotti on Kaka
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"Kaka will show he is the best player of all. Rooney has great power and Ronaldo has a technique to play at speed which is superior to anybody else. But what makes Kaka unique is that he is effective creating goals and turning his talent into scoring goals himself.

"People have compared him to Zidane, who was outstanding, but Kaka is more concrete and much more effective that he was."

[7] Mourinho chucking in the towel?
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

"My emotion is that I am sad. Is the title race over for us? Almost. In football almost is always a big question. It's not over mathematically and we still have to believe.

"But I think Manchester United now feel it is very close for them.

"At this moment they don't feel any pressure. They feel comfortable that they can come to us on May 9, lose, and still be the champions. The situation now is that they have to got to lose two matches and Chelsea win three.

"So for them it is very, very close at the moment but almost is still almost."

    [2] Momentum with us
    Sunday, April 29, 2007

    Fergie:

"I feel the momentum is back with us, particularly with Chelsea drawing. We have a five-point lead and a superior goal difference, giving us a marvellous chance with three games left.

"But the most important thing is that my lads are having a real go. If you do that, and with the finishers we have in our side, we are always likely to score. That is a smashing attitude to have at this stage of the season."

    Fergie hopes to pick duo

Sir Alex Ferguson would be 'delighted' to call on Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic for Manchester United's second leg with Milan.

The centre-halves are hoping to figure in the San Siro on Wednesday night as United look to reach the UEFA Champions League final.

Vidic has been out for a month with a dislocated shoulder, while Ferdinand has missed the last two matches with a groin injury.

Ferguson will make a late decision on whether the defenders line up against Milan, but is hoping he can select Ferdinand and Vidic.

"Vidic got the all-clear from the specialist yesterday and it is a matter of how much risk we put on the game," said Ferguson at his press conference on Sky Sports News.

"Rio Ferdinand has done some training in the last two or three days, so both of them we have a decision to make.

"To be frank with you, I haven't come anywhere near that decision.

"I want to see them in training tonight, speak to them and try to gauge their own confidence of playing, which is important also.

"I'd be delighted to play the two of them, but I don't know if that's possible."

With United aiming to protect a 3-2 advantage in Milan, Ferguson is putting his faith in his players to complete the job and book a trip to Athens later in May.

He added: "It never changes, there is always anxiety about the big occasions and you hope everything works out the way you want it to.

"The only thing when I go to bed tonight is I have got a team with confidence, a team that will run to the last minute and will definitely have a go, no question about that.

"When you put all these things together, I can sleep okay I think tonight."

    Ronaldo double

Cristiano Ronaldo did another awards double on Monday night after being named Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year on Monday night.

At the end-of-season awards dinner at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old claimed both major honours, the first voted for by over 100,000 fans, the second by his team-mates. It has been an incredible season for the Portuguese winger, who is now widely considered to be the best player in the world. And he has the silverware to prove it - he has claimed an astonishing 13 personal accolades this season.

Ronaldo, looking at the Sir Matt Busby award, joked: "That's bigger than Patrice [Evra]". He added that this season had been "a pleasure playing at this club and with these great players".

He was beaten to the Goal of the Season award, which deservedly went to Paul Scholes for his thunderous volley in off the bar against Aston Villa. Scholes, who was presented the award by team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said: "The standard of goals this season has been brilliant, so I'm really pleased to get this award."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To be honest, I was a bit worried about this season with the World Cup incident and all, however Ronaldo has become one of the best in the world. I still consider Kaka and Ronaldinho better, however Ronaldo is making great progress.

Goal of the year, was no competition, Schole's goal maybe one of the best Utd goals ever.
