    Trez earns three-match ban
    Sunday 11 March, 2007

David Trezeguet has received a three-match ban after video evidence showed him elbowing a Brescia player.

The Juventus hitman lashed out at Fabiano Santacroce during Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at the Stadio Martelli in Mantova.

The referee did not witness the incident, so video evidence was used for the Disciplinary Commission to reach its verdict.

According to the report, Trezeguet’s action in elbowing Santacroce was “violent conduct.”

The Frenchman will be suspended for games against Treviso, Triestina and Frosinone, but will be back for the top of the table showdown with Napoli on March 25.

    Trez appeals against ban
    Monday 12 March, 2007

Juventus have decided to lodge an appeal against the three-match ban handed out to David Trezeguet.

The Frenchman was punished after Saturday’s match with Brescia, which ended with the Bianconeri’s 3-1 defeat on neutral turf at Mantova’s Stadio Martelli.

Video evidence caught the striker elbowing Brescia defender Fabiano Santacroce, causing the Disciplinary Commission to decide on a three-match suspension after analysing the television images.

The club confirmed with a note on the official website that an appeal will be presented against the verdict, which would leave the Old Lady without Trezeguet for the games against Treviso, Triestina and Frosinone.

Midfielder Mauro Camoranesi was also punished with a one-match ban, for ‘gross unsporting conduct towards one of his opponents.’

    DD denies quit claims
    Monday 12 March, 2007

Juventus Coach Didier Deschamps has denied that he considered leaving after the defeat with Brescia.

The Bianconeri are still top of the table, one point ahead of Napoli, despite the slip-up at Mantova’s Stadio Martelli on Saturday.

But rumours had suggested that the Frenchman was very disappointed and had threatened to resign from his post at the helm of the Old Lady.

“I don’t know who made this up, I never said anything like that,” Deschamps raged in a Press conference.

“I don’t feel I am the problem here. I would tell you every single word I said in the dressing room, but I really feel that it is right for those things to remain private,” added the tactician.

“When I speak with the team I always ask my men their comments and what they think. If they were to see their thoughts published they would probably speak less freely with me.”

The former Monaco boss made no secret of the fact that he was not pleased with the team’s performance over the weekend, but doesn’t believe this can compromise the season.

“I am not happy, I am mad mainly because of the way we were defeated. The entire team didn’t do well, it wasn’t one man’s fault. However, our season does not depend on one match.

“We have done well so far, this is a great season and it is logical that we must sometimes lose. There will be other tough clashes. This is a very competitive championship, but we are doing well.”

Deschamps also commented on David Trezeguet’s three-match ban, which was handed out by the Disciplinary Commission after viewing video evidence proving he had elbowed an opponent in the match with Brescia.

“Three matches seems excessive. I do not want to justify his behaviour, but when we play everyone is always ready to judge what we do, we always seem to be under the spotlight,” concluded the Juventino.

    Juventus 1-0 Treviso
Juventus made up for their shock loss at Brescia by extending their lead at the top of Serie B by disposing of Treviso. A Raffaele Palladino goal in the 71st minute was enough for the Old Lady to move three points clear of Napoli after their draw against Vicenza.
Didier Deschamps’ boys were hardly on fire in the opening period as they struggled to break down a tactically aware Treviso rearguard. Saying that, the Turin giants went close in the 17th minute when a Pavel Nedved free-kick was tipped on to the post by Avramov. Juve’s only other notable effort before the break fell to a wasteful Palladino, while the away side responded with a Camorani shot which went well over the bar.
The Bianconeri took on a more attacking shape in the second period as Valeri Bojinov replaced a quiet Marco Marchionni. That change woke up Juventus and they should have taken the lead in minute 58 only for Alex Del Piero to be stopped by the impressive Avramov.
However, they eventually took the lead with 20 minutes left. Del Piero surprised their opponents with a quick free-kick and Palladino made no mistake. Juve failed to increase their lead despite numerous late efforts, while Treviso never looked like bothering Gigi Buffon at the other end.
    Scorers: Palladino 71 (J)
Juventus: Buffon; Birindelli, Zebina, Boumsong, Chiellini; Marchionni (Bojinov 46), Paro (Marchisio 56), Giannichedda, Nedved; Del Piero, Palladino (Balzaretti 77)
Treviso: Avramov; Viali, Valdez, Mezzano; Camorani (Bradaschia 78), Gissi (Moro 58), Fietta, Music; Russotto (Acquafresca 60), Beghetto, Quadrini

    DD blames Juve hecklers
    Tuesday 13 March, 2007

Didier Deschamps has blamed the fans for heckling Juventus and therefore affecting their performance against Treviso.

“Our opponents were very clammed up and didn’t leave us any space to move in,” the Coach explained after the hard-fought 1-0 victory.

“The fact that there weren’t many people in the crowd made the difference. The players were a little scared by the chants that were being heard.”

The supporters turned on the squad following Saturday’s shock 3-1 thrashing at Brescia, but this match will have done little to solve those issues.

It was another disappointing Bianconeri performance, the win only secured by Alessandro Del Piero’s quickly taken free kick for Raffaele Palladino, which caught the Treviso defence off guard.

“I understand that the fans must manifest their displeasure with a situation, but they need to help the players. This is Serie B, not the top flight or the Champions League. There are difficulties every day and it is by no means easy.”

Nonetheless, Juventus have extended their lead at the top of the table to three points after Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Vicenza.

“It was important to win today and I would say this was a very positive day. The defeat to Brescia inevitably left a psychological mark on the squad, but we did better in the second half. Thankfully, the chasing pack don’t always get victories either,” added Deschamps.

The Frenchman made a few changes to his side this afternoon, using players that have been on the sidelines for much of this season.

“Jonathan Zebina has great quality and I moved him to central defence, as he has the experience to lead that section. Giorgio Chiellini pushed very hard down the flank.

“Valeri Bojinov also did well, but I am convinced that Marco Marchionni would have also impressed had he been able to continue. The important thing I take from this match is that I can count on the whole squad.”

    Saviola opens Juve door
    Friday 16 March, 2007

Juventus target Javier Saviola has admitted that his future may be away from Barcelona and La Liga.

The Argentine’s contract with the Camp Nou outfit expires in the summer and his Bosman status has attracted the interest of numerous clubs.

“I haven’t signed a new contract with anyone and the chances of me staying at Barcelona are 50-50,” said Saviola.

“Where would I go if I were to leave? I don’t know yet, but it wouldn’t be a problem for me to leave La Liga and move abroad,” added the South American.

Financially struggling Juventus are keen on free buys and have been heavily paired with Saviola over the past few months.

Bianconeri tactician Didier Deschamps is also a massive fan of El Conejo, whom he bossed at Monaco two seasons ago.

Saviola is a contender to replace Valeri Bojinov in the Bianconeri squad, who seems set to return to Fiorentina after struggling during his loan spell.

Valencia, Real Madrid and Villarreal have also been associated with the 25-year-old, who has admirers in the Premiership too.

    Zigic in fresh Juve link
    Friday 16 March, 2007

Juventus have stepped up their interest in signing Racing Santander forward Nikola Zigic during the summer.

The latter was already linked with the Turin giants last July, but he moved to Santander instead after netting 55 goals in 77 games for one time European champions Red Star Belgrade.

Despite signing a contract with the Spanish outfit until 2010, the Old Lady of Italian football have renewed their attention in his services.

“Nikola can still improve a lot, but already is an excellent player,” said his former Red Star Coach Walter Zenga. “He would be a good signing if an Italian club were to contract him.”

Zigic has admitted that he would be happy to play in Serie A at some stage of his career and is flattered by Juve’s interest in him.

“I know that they are following me,” he declared. “Am I happy? Who wouldn’t want to play for Juventus?”

Racing have denied reports that there are negotiations underway with the Bianconeri, but have admitted that they would be willing to consider offers for Zigic.

“We have not received any official bids, but we are aware that Nikola is being followed by many,” declared a club spokesman.

“If we were to receive any interesting offers then we would be ready to discuss them.”

    Juve meet Lampard agent
    Friday 16 March, 2007

Juventus are again being linked with a move for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard after his agent held talks with Italian officials.

Both sporting director Alessio Secco (pictured) and transfer consultant Roberto Bettega were pictured with Lampard’s representative Steve Kutner, which understandably fuelled talk that Juve had entered the race to sign him.

However, despite the Italian giants insisting they will spend over the summer, the 28-year-old is an unlikely capture.

“Roberto and I have been good friends since Juve tried to sign Paul Ince before he went to Inter,” said Kutner.

“He has come over to London to attend a series of meetings I have arranged with Premiership clubs regarding potential transfer deals and collaborations, there is no other agenda.”

Although Lampard’s future is still in doubt given that he could potentially leave the Stamford Bridge club for just £8m because of a FIFA ruling, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen.

The Old Lady may also struggle to cover the English international’s salary and the prospect of not playing Champions League football in Turin next season would also be problematic.

    Instead,
Football Italia understands that the Serie B club are in England in an attempt to try to sell some of their own players.

Striker Marcelo Zalayeta and defender Robert Kovac are just two names who Juve are hoping to cash in on.

However, La Vecchia Signora may also use their London visit to make contact with Arsenal over the availability of Gilberto Silva.

    Almiron approached by Juve
    Friday 16 March, 2007

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi has admitted that Juventus have made an enquiry over Sergio Almiron.

The midfielder, who has been a key figure in the Tuscan side’s tactical system over the last two years, is highly regarded by several major clubs, but Corsi insists that the Bianconeri are in pole position.

“So far, Juventus are the only club that has officially expressed an interest in the player,” said the chief to Violagol.

Fiorentina have also been heavily associated with the Argentine ace, but Corsi insists he’s unaware of the Viola’s intentions.

“There has been no official contact or any negotiation with them,” added Corsi. “However, the Press sometimes has different sources and might know things that the clubs are not informed of.”

Almiron is also a reported target for the likes of Milan and Inter, who his agent Claudio Vagheggi claims would be the 26-year-old’s preferred destination.

    Juve "dream of Gerrard"
    Friday 16 March, 2007

Juventus director Alessio Secco has confirmed Steven Gerrard is a prime target, but warned Liverpool would not release him easily.

The Bianconeri have been heavily linked with the England midfielder for some months, but hit the headlines all over again when Secco and transfer consultant Roberto Bettega were pictured on British soil.

“We have been in London since the day before yesterday, but we are not here to buy,” assured Secco in ‘Tuttosport.’

“A club must also look after its rapport with other sides. Gerrard is a phenomenon, but I doubt Liverpool would be so crazy as to sell him. I consider him a dream signing.”

Nonetheless, this would be the right time for Juve to lay the groundwork for a summer bid, as this week the club increased the capital to the tune of £70m – news that was greeted with a round of applause from the squad.

“It is a strong signal from both sides. Those who perhaps had a few doubts on whether to stay or not will now have less, or even none at all,” continued Secco.

“I’m not just referring to Gianluigi Buffon, but also David Trezeguet, Mauro Camoranesi, Alessandro Del Piero, Jonathan Zebina, Pavel Nedved and basically everybody. It is important that our top class players stay and are joined by other great stars that can help us raise the quality of this team.”

However, the sporting director confirmed that Trezeguet is unlikely to change his mind after seven years in Turin.

“We are working on finding a centre-forward up to his standard, even if it is not at all easy to replace someone like David. Our preference, not only for the striker role, is to go for Italian players. Luca Toni will not come, though. He said he’s happy in Florence and we respect his wishes.”

Juventus also need to reinforce their defence after some worrying performances at the back this season and have been linked with Porto’s Brazilian man Pepe.

“Pepe is one of the most talented out there and we like him a lot. Luisao isn’t bad either, but he gives away a few too many free kicks. The advantage there is that we still have to resolve Fabrizio Miccoli’s position with Benfica,” he noted of the Italian international on loan.

“The German path has been blocked off, so Christoph Metzelder and Per Mertesacker are no longer on the agenda. Andrea Barzagli is the best Italian alternative, although Walter Samuel was purely a rumour invented by the Press.”

    Palladino living the dream
    Saturday 17 March, 2007

Juventus starlet Raffaele Palladino says it’s a dream come true to play alongside his childhood hero Alessandro Del Piero.

“Playing for this club has been a dream I have held within me since I was a little boy. I wished so hard to one day be able to work with such a great champion as Del Piero and now I’m doing it,” beamed the Under-21 international.

“As a kid I had two posters on my wall, of Del Piero and Zinedine Zidane. I remember the Del Piero one most fondly, as I never got the chance to meet the Frenchman.

“When I joined Juventus and got to have my first training session with Ale, I was so emotional. He gave me some great advice, as he is a wonderful man off the field as well as a champion on it.”

The two players combined last week for Palladino’s winner in the hard-fought 1-0 victory over Treviso, as Del Piero took a free kick quickly to catch the defence unawares.

“I called for the ball as I was clear, but all the credit for the goal goes to Del Piero. It was a wonderful feeling to score. I should have given him the assist instead, as we all want him to be crowned Serie B Capocannoniere.”

Palladino had been on loan to Livorno last season, but upon their demotion in the Calciopoli scandal, Juve recalled the young talent.

“I had received an offer from Udinese this summer, but my objective is to try to make a name for myself at Juventus and stay here as long as possible,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

He has earned praise from World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi, who compared the Azzurrini man with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Lippi gave me a lot of useful advice. When he talked about me it was very moving, as I never thought such a great Coach could single me out.”

    Nedved has Deschamps doubts
    Saturday 17 March, 2007

Juventus have confirmed Didier Deschamps will be the Coach next season, but Pavel Nedved warns he isn’t so sure.

“The club confirmed Deschamps? I didn’t know,” said the 2003 Ballon d’Or winner. “This is not the time for renewals and decisions. If we were to fail in reaching our objective, I don’t know what would happen.”

The former Monaco boss is increasingly unpopular both within the squad and with the fans following a dip in form recently, even though Juve still lead the Serie B table. There are also tactical disagreements with Nedved.

“I try to enjoy myself on the field, but it is not always possible. I like playing in a more central position, but against such closed off defences it is tough to find space, so the Coach sends me out wide.”

Some players are staying away from interviews with the media, raising further suspicions.

“Everyone thinks with their own mind, but I don’t believe it is right to expect players to talk all the time. They have to focus on what’s happening on the field and I get the feeling we are all a little tired of being asked about nothing but transfer gossip.”

Nedved was one of the stars who elected to stay in Turin even after the summer demotion, but his permanence depends on their ability to create a strong squad for next season – boosted by the £71m increase in capital this week.

“I am happy with what the club has done. It is a sign that the owners are close to this side and really care about Juventus, so when it was announced the players all joined in a spontaneous round of applause.

“As for my future, there is time to decide. Right now we must concentrate on playing well and getting back into Serie A. Our objectives for this season have not changed, as we have to keep our heads down and maintain our momentum.”

Nedved had suggested he was going to retire after the 2006 World Cup, but stayed on another year to help Juve. What will he do next term?

“Every end of season I look at the pros and cons. Up until now the positive aspects have always had the upper hand, like my desire to play football and the motivation to improve. I still have another year on my contract and want to do everything I can to respect it,” explained the 35-year-old.

“I am happy to hear that I am considered an example, especially if the Coach is the one saying it. I am the oldest in this squad and feel it is my duty to help the youngsters grow and find the right path to their objectives.”

    Crotone 2-1 Napoli
Napoli’s four-month unbeaten run came to a surprise end at third-from-bottom Crotone. Edy Reja’s men got off to a terrible start, as in the opening 18 minutes Sedivec had dribbled past both Giubilato and goalkeeper Iezzo to place an angled drive into the far corner and – after Giubilato’s header hit the woodwork for Napoli – Giampaolo sprung the offside trap to beat the helpless Iezzo. Cannavaro nodded just off target, but was visibly angry to be replaced for tactical reasons after just 21 minutes.
Sedivec was a constant danger, but the visitors were given a leg back into the game when former Napoli man Zamboni accidentally turned a De Zerbi free kick into his own net. Bau’s goal was correctly disallowed for offside and substitute Calaio was extremely lucky to hit the post twice during the same individual move. The frame of the goal was also shaking around Iezzo thanks to a Sedivec cross-shot and the goalkeeper required a reaction save with an outstretched foot to stop the lively Crotone star. Napoli are beaten after 18 games without defeat in Serie B.

    Frings denies Juve talks
    Monday 19 March, 2007

Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings has denied that he is close to joining Juventus. “This is a joke!”

The German international was paired with the Bianconeri after reports in Italy suggested that he had been in contact with club representatives, but the player was eager to dismiss the news.

“Me at Juve? This must be a joke, these reports are absolutely groundless,” said the 31-year-old.

“I have never spoken with anyone, the Italian newspapers always have to find something to write about,” added the midfielder, who is highly rated for his versatility in midfield and defence.

Werder’s sporting director Klaus Allofs also confirmed that Frings is set to stay with the Bundesliga outfit, where he returned in 2005 after two seasons with Borussia Dortmund and one at Bayern Munich.

“Torsten has a contract with us until 2009 and has never said that he wants to leave,” explained Allofs.

“These reports are not true, we have never received any offer or even any enquiries about the player.”

Juventus have already captured Zdenek Grygera from Ajax and Hasan Salihamidzic of Bayern Munich, who will arrive on free transfers during the summer.

The Turin giants are also allegedly close to signing Sergio Almiron of Empoli, who has already reached an agreement with the Old Lady, according to club official Ciro Ferrara.

The player’s future is still uncertain as talks over a new contract with the Blues are progressing slowly.

Juve sporting director Alessio Secco and transfer guru Roberto Bettega were pictured last week with the player’s representative Steve Kutner, fuelling speculation that he might move to Italy.

“I want to stay at Chelsea, I have never wanted to leave the club and I don’t intend to do so. I have everything I want in life where I am right now,” Lampard told The Sun.

“For the past six years my life has been my family and Chelsea football club. Some players can say that and it sounds fake,” explained the midfielder.

“I can say it because it is absolutely true. I am very proud I play for Chelsea and of what I have achieved as part of this team.

“I value my relationship with the supporters very highly and they have become part of my football family. I know when I am older and have finished my career I will sit among them and support Chelsea with them.”

Lampard could leave Stamford Bridge for just £8m this summer because of a FIFA ruling that would allow the England international to buy out of his contract once it has run for three years.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly interested in the player’s services, with rumours claiming Lampard could follow Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho abroad if the tactician were to leave West London.

“As far as the FIFA rule is concerned of course I am aware of it, I read about it every day in the papers! The fact is that it’s not relevant. I have two years left on my contract and I want to stay and sign a new one.

“Chelsea have actually yet to make a proper offer on a new deal. I am not worried about the situation but it's frustrating when everyone else is talking about my future,” concluded Lampard.
