I think United need at least a striker, but Tevez does the job so...unless Saha is sold and SAF get someone, United can survive.  The true test will come later in the season when crunch time sneaks up on you and tells you whether or not your preseason was good enough and if your squad was adequate

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

Well, i think the only place where you could argue are squad isnt the strongest in the league is up front. The midfield is JAM packed, and we have decent cover in defence, even with Scholes, Park, Neville and Silvestre out.

But i think even our striking department is far from shabby. Youre usually good with 3 QUALITY strikers. I think if push comes to shove Rooney and Saha can always play CF in a 4-5-1. If we get another striker, itll have to be a short term investment, like Anelka. Because aslong as Saha is here for cover, and with the young age of Rooney and Tevez, we dont really need anyone else to step up and be a consistent contributor.

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

We deffianlty need another striker.  Buying a tried and tested striker like Anelka or Berbatov would be brilliant but could really throw the balance of the team.  We would be paying good money for these players and they would expect to play alot, and with Rooney-Tevez looking like a brilliant first choice Saha for Pace at the end of Games having another top striker would be disruptive.  It would make more sence to scout for a taller striker who will get the job done.  Solskjaer if you like lol  Obviously you can't just pick them out of thin air, but with a younger player they wouldn't complain about being on the bench or not selected all the time.  Huntelaar would be interesting, great goal scorer and would add something different.

Any other young strikers out there?

And its been picked up by Ryan Giggs,
Yorke has made a diagnal run,
    Theirs support in the centre,
    but hes past Keown...
    past Dixon...
AND HAS SCORED A SENSATIONAL GOAL!!!

for me a young player is the opposite of what we need. Our future is already set with the Roovez partnership. We need a player who can come in and do the job, and yet not complain when he isnt required. Larsson was the PERFECT player in that role for us last year. And come to think of it, he would still be this time around in january, he's calling it quits in sweden and could play a last 5 months for a top team. Great super sub, smart player. Just like Ole.

Agreed, what we need is a fourth striker, but we need it badly!

Larsson would be perfect, but would he come back?

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

Its pure speculation on my part,  im wishing itd be possible. Larsson just scored a goal yesterday against Bordeaux in the uefa cup.

Like i said, january usually seems like the time for defenders for Fergie. Evra and Vidic in Jan 06', and speculations (even from manutd.com) suggest that a LB may be on the cards again. Besides Reading's Shorey, Vidic's compatriot Ivanovic is on the cards for a 10M pounds transfer. Its clear the serbs have a great generation of defenders currently, and the hard work ethic that Vida has brought to our back line might be a boost  in convincing the gaffer to shop Serb again.

On a side note, it seems Nevs has had yet ANOTHER injury setback in his recovery. It seems Mr. Reliable is losing that exact quality he has had since his injury since came to be in march 07 against Bolton. Hopefully the lad gets well and comes back, but i must say i feel most confident with Brown slowly making the position his own, and Simpson showing what a quality longterm replacement he will be.

i don't think bringing Larsson makes much sense though, ya gotta get players like Ole whocan take the bench and come on and spark the team without too much problems...Larsson is prerty old and won't be able to do it for more than a season if so long.

ole retired begining of the season!

Gudjonsen is a name that got floated around... very similar to Larrson.  I left back seems more likly.  Also Willy Sagnol has been marked out after Nevs set backs.

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

you wont get a player of 20legend's quality who'll sacrifice a starting spot for the good of the team. Professionnals like that are pretty rare, and with the quality he had, and the offers he got to play for other big clubs regularly. Trust me, Utd wont find a replacement for Ole. We'll have to accept that our bench striker (4th choice at that) would have to be of inferior quality, or a veteran wanting a chance at trophies. A la Larsson...

Saha is a great 3rd choice to have. I think no other team in the world except barcelona can claim such a quality 3rd striker. He should start for most teams, thats when he's fit of course!!!

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

as for the Rb need, i dont see it:

1st - Brown has played exceptionnably well so far this season. O'shea can also do a more than decent job there. and pique. and evans... you get the idea.

2nd- Simpson is being groomed as the long term replacement, and has shown he can handle a big club like utd, and he seems the really classy player. He should be competing for starting honours as soon as next season, no need for a RB really.

he would, but its his availability, cost and the willingness of barca to sell one of its forward with Etoo leaving for the african cup in january.

Id agree that hed be a good fit at the club though.

Wes Brown has reject the latest contract offer from Manchester United.  David Gill has said it was a great offer and we won't offer him another one.  Looks like he could be on his way out...

    Re: MANCHESTER UNITED OFFICIAL THREAD

so did he in january 06... remember Vidic and Evra. Low key signings, but WOW have they contributed much last season, and so far in this one aswell. I expect the same type of signing if anyone comes at all in january.  Less than 10 mil GBP for sure.

Anyways, weird, sad and annoying news from the Wes Brown extention. If he wants to leave he can tho. With pique and Evans giving cover to Neville and Simpson at RB.

Good result against Derby anyways, couldve easily been more, but good match from the recovering Rooney, shouldve scored on 1 or 2 occasions there, but overall we took enough of our chances. Cruising.
