It doesn't matter wich manager Valencia have, it could be Mourinho, it could be Capello, it could be Lippi, it could be whomever. But until Valencia doesn't fix their very obvious flaw they are not going to play good football, Valencia is like an Alfa Romeo with the brakes on. They have huge potential and quality, but there's something that is evidently holding them down. Just as Atletico Madrid, Valencia haves world class wingers in Joaquin Sanches and David Silva, they also have the outstanding David Villa, but until they sign an attacking midfielder they are always going to look the same. I mean, Valencia is an unbalanced team, they have wingers to spare, a couple of defensive mids, quality forwards, but they don't have a single attacking midfielder.
And it shows as Valencia always looks short on creativity, Valencia depends on the individual genialities of Joaquin, David Silva, Miguel, and David Villa. When Miguel and Joaquin fail to perform their trademark one-two's over the right flank Valencia looks poor. They need a creative player, someone like Juan Roman Riquelme, Deco, Fabregas, or Xavi, someone who can organise and dictate Valencia's midfield (wich by the way haves the potential of playing great football. Joaquin, David Silva, Baraja, etc). At least Ronald Koeman wants to sign Rafael Van der Vaart, a world class playmaker, but the issue with Van der Vaart is that he spends half of his seasons out injured, he's unreliable.
I personally think it wouldn't hurt Ronald Koeman if he could pay a visit to their neighbors, Villarreal, maybe have a talk with Riquelme. I think Ronald Koeman should stop thinking about the next season and Rafa Van der Vaart. And he should start thinking about now, about January reinforcements, about immediate help, about this season and Juan Roman Riquelme. If Valencia fails to sign a quality creative attacking midfielder by January, there's a huge posibility Valencia might not make it to next season's Champions League. And if Valencia fails to sign both a creative midfielder and a defender worthy of filling Roberto Ayala's boots, Valencia will definitely not qualify for next season's Champions League. Valencia are an unbalanced team without any depth, they have quality players, but they can't afford rotations, and if they keep going like this all season long the key players of Valencia are going to fatigue half-way through the second leg of the season and this could cost them a spot in the 'top four'.
Everytime Valencia restes their 'key' players (David Villa, Joaquin Sanchez, David Silva, Miguel, etc), Valencia loses the game. They can't keep going like this, they need a better bench / depth, as everytime Valencia performs rotations in an effort to rest their key players - everytime they do this, they lose 3 points. Villarreal is well balanced, haves quality, and is showing consistency. Atletico Madrid could also make it difficult for Valencia. And Sevilla could step into gear. If Ronald Koeman fails to sign what they need (wich is not much, just a quality center-back, and a quality creative midfielder) in January, that will prove the beginning of the end for Ronald Koeman's tenure with Valencia.
