    Re: JUVENTUS F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

I think Juventus will play better than in the last few matches because they have, or at least the majority of them (I think) have been rested for some days now. Plermo will always be a difficult opponent, but Juventus haves everything to win this match.

Del Piero might have a good performance, although everyone knows (Bianconeri fans included) that Alessandro Del Piero is way past it.

I've seen articules stating that Frank Lampard wants a move to Juventus, and that Arsenal's Gilberto is also keen on Juventus. Maybe Gilberto, but Frank Lampard is the worst signing they could ever think of. They should try to sign someone who can organise and dictate the Juve's play, but  it is also important that the player actually haves the ability to play successfuly in Italian Serie A Football. Juan Roman Riquelme would've been the best solution for Juventus, but he's not available now, he's on his way to Boca Juniors. So now I think that Juventus is rather screwed because I really don't see Diego playing for the Bianconeri, at least not this season. And Rafael Van der Vaart is very keen on the idea of playing in Spain (La Liga), wich leaves Juventus with very few world class options.

    Re: JUVENTUS F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

only great great players can carry their teams all the way. Maradona did it, Zidane did it but not ronaldo. Maradona went to napoli, only had karika as the other recognizeable face and look what he did for them. As for the world cups, gettin sent off against brazil in 82, winning 86 single handedly, if not goals then they were assists, taking the team to the final in 90 only to lose to a penalty that was never a penalty. ronaldo won a world cup sitting on the bench, the next 1 he didnt show up when it mattered, 2002 he was good, but wouldnt say single handedly won it for brasil.. you probably would though.

Zidane won everything he could ever take, winning it for france in 98, taking france single handedly to the final in 06- after the brasil game Ronnie declared he felt Brasil were playing against Zidane, not france.

Ronaldo was a great player, but get over him, perhaps he should have more trophies than what he has now.. but that is similar to Riquelme's position- great player, unlucky not to have won more. Only difference is Ronaldo got injured alot, and was lucky enough to play for alot of top clubs, where Riquelme's never had the trust he deserved to play at a big club in europe. In the 'riquelme' thread you actually argued that Riquelme should win trophies to be considered as a genius-  same arguement doesnt seem to apply to ronaldo in your book

    Re: JUVENTUS F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

In don't think is fair to compare Ronaldo and Riquelme trophy wise, because Riquelme has been far more successful at club level. Yes Riquelme has won very few trophies in Europe, but he's been a very accomplished player in South America; 3 Argentine Championships (Argentine Leagues), 3 Copa Libertadores (the South American Champions League), and 1 Intercontinental Cup. Riquelme made the most of his time with Boca Juniors and Villarreal.. on the other hand, Ronaldo injuries, bad decisions, and all exceptions aside.. didn't made the most of his time with Inter, and Real Madrid (wich are 10 years of playing).

So Ronaldo only managed to win 1 UEFA Cup with Inter, and 1 La Liga and 1 Intercontinental Cup with Real Madrid. So he managed to win 3 prestigious-important trophies in 10 years. When I compare this to Riquelme's club achievements; 3 Argentine League Titles, 3 Copa Libertadores, and 1 Intercontinental Cup with Boca Juniors, 1 Intertoto Cup (Villarreal), Champions League Semi-Final finish with Villarreal (deserves a mention), and 3rd place finish with Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga. I think Riquelme has done better at club level, I mean Riquelme won 8 important-prestigious trophies in 7 1/2 years.

Just another example of how underrated Riquelme is in Europe, any other player with Riquelme's Club Records would have walked his way very easily to any team in Europe, be it Juventus, or Inter, or AC Milan, or Real Madrid, or many others.. On the other hand, Ronaldo was a very recognised figure in Europe; he won 3 FIFA World Player of the Year awards, and he obviously deserved one of them, but the other two?? He won his first one back in 1996 just becasue he won the Dutch Cup with PSV Eindhoven. And he won his second one in 1997 just because he won the Cup Winners' Cup with FC Barcelona. I mean, that's ridiculous, are the Dutch Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup more competitive and prestigious than CONMEBOL's Copa Libertadores!! What a lack of respect towards South American Football!!

Just a remainder that there is such a thing as 'underrated' players, and Riquelme's one of them. Any other player with Riquelme's list of trophies and achievements at club level - would have walked his way very easily into any team in Europe. Ronaldo was a very recognised figure in European Football (as I clearified above, the fact that he won 3 FIFA World Player of the Year awards serves as evidence), on the other hand Riquelme hasn't received the recognition he deserves in Europe, and unfortunately he will never be recognised as he should be. Ronaldo was a great player, nobody questions it, but unlike his international career with Brazil.. Ronaldo didn't made the most of his club career.

    Re: JUVENTUS F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

A 5-0 victory can only help, by the way I've noticed how much better Juventus performs when the 'key players' get rested. I really admire what Juventus is doing, they don't have a good team, but nevertheless they are showing passion and determination. David Trezeguet is an outstanding poacher, always there to finish the move and always consistent. But I just don't see Juventus giving Inter a run for their money, Juventus's key players are ageing and that age will show on the second leg of the season.

It's a real shame Juventus never made a concrete offer for Juan Roman Riquelme. Anyways, I hope Juventus keeps it going.

For your talk about Diego being slow and possessing less ability....

Madrid have traditionally struggled in Germany, but Schuster sees a positive in the absence of Werder playmaker Diego, a player he simply could not stop praising.

"It is good for us," he said. "He is a player who with his pace and his football, leads Werder Bremen. He almost carries them on his back.

"He has the ability to score, and organize his team's attack. Much of what Werder do goes through him."

"Because of his quality, he is undoubtedly their most dangerous player," he continued.

"That he will not be playing is very good for us, though I know it is better for the game to have such players on the pitch."

"Of course, I do not want to say that Werder are all about him. They are a very good team with a great squad. But Diego is simply special."

    Re: JUVENTUS F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

Do you guys think that Juventus needs to or should buy any players in the winter though, because they are afterall in the top 4 in the league unless they think there's a chance to win Serie A and the current players cannot do that.  It's just that the top teams have not beaten Juventus and i wonder if it wasn't wiser to wait til the summer instead of buying players that will need to settle in before really performing...
