To tell the truth, I've seen Riquelme talking about his now almost wrapped-up return to Boca Juniors, I've seen Riquelme saying he's prepared to play a season for free if he haves to and all that.. But to tell you the truth, Riquelme doesn't looks to happy about his return to Boca Juniors, I think Riquelme wasn't thinking about returning to Boca at such an early age (29), and I think he looks or at least he's showing a little bit of frustration.
I mean, he (Riquelme) could've wrapped-up the negotiation between Boca and Villarreal if he wanted to, but he didn't. People are saying it is becasue of the money, but it's quite obvious that money's not his priority, Riquelme is not a gold-digger like many other players in Europe. I think Riquelme wasn't thinking about returning to Boca Juniors so early in his career, and I think Riquelme wanted another shot at the Champions League. Why?? Because Riquelme has won every single trophy there's to win in South America, he won it all with Boca Juniors. Maybe Riquelme wanted a return to Europe, he did stayed at Villarreal, he was keen on joining Atletico Madrid, and he actually said he liked the idea of playing in Italy, but for some unexplainable reason European Football refuses to open his doors to Riquelme.
I share the same opinion as The Soldier - Riquelme should return to Boca Juniors, what is he expecting in Europe?? Is Riquelme expecting Inter or Juventus to make a concrete offer for him in January?? Riquelme was the best player at both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa America, but it seems Europe doens't thinks much of such South American Tournaments. And apart from that Riquelme also showed some good displays recently with Argentina in the Wold Cup Qualifiers for 2010, something that stirred-up rumours but once again failed to produce a concrete offer, it seems like nothing will ever be enough for European Clubs. For this and many other reasons, I think Riquelme should take the best option he's received, and until now that's Boca Juniors. He shouldn't stay in Europe, only uncertainty will surround him there, rumours followed by more rumours, but never the well deserved concrete offer Riquelme should receive. The concrete offers only go for Diego, Van der Vaart, and Nasri, proven players like Riquelme don't have a place in the Modern-European-Game. If Riquelme keeps this up, he's going to stay in Villarreal until 2009.
