i like Ballack, only i think Riquelme's more capable of those defence-splitting passes.

i don't think a league being too quick for a player is an issue...climate, culture etc. more determines how players adapt more than just how the team plays.  Lesser talented players play in the EPL than Riquelme and Ballack...if they fin the right team, then anything goes...

EPL is to quick for Riquelme. He will end up  like Sebastian Veron I reckon.

    That's right..

but veron failed at Chelsea because of injuries...

Anyw2ays riquelme in my opinion would be best at boca Juniors...

    There he plays great football..

    Why give it up?

    Re: CHELSEA F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

To tell the truth, I've seen Riquelme talking about his now almost wrapped-up return to Boca Juniors, I've seen Riquelme saying he's prepared to play a season for free if he haves to and all that.. But to tell you the truth, Riquelme doesn't looks to happy about his return to Boca Juniors, I think Riquelme wasn't thinking about returning to Boca at such an early age (29), and I think he looks or at least he's showing a little bit of frustration.

I mean, he (Riquelme) could've wrapped-up the negotiation between Boca and Villarreal if he wanted to, but he didn't. People are saying it is becasue of the money, but it's quite obvious that money's not his priority, Riquelme is not a gold-digger like many other players in Europe. I think Riquelme wasn't thinking about returning to Boca Juniors so early in his career, and I think Riquelme wanted another shot at the Champions League. Why?? Because Riquelme has won every single trophy there's to win in South America, he won it all with Boca Juniors. Maybe Riquelme wanted a return to Europe, he did stayed at Villarreal, he was keen on joining Atletico Madrid, and he actually said he liked the idea of playing in Italy, but for some unexplainable reason European Football refuses to open his doors to Riquelme.

I share the same opinion as The Soldier - Riquelme should return to Boca Juniors, what is he expecting in Europe?? Is Riquelme expecting Inter or Juventus to make a concrete offer for him in January?? Riquelme was the best player at both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa America, but it seems Europe doens't thinks much of such South American Tournaments. And apart from that Riquelme also showed some good displays recently with Argentina in the Wold Cup Qualifiers for 2010, something that stirred-up rumours but once again failed to produce a concrete offer, it seems like nothing will ever be enough for European Clubs. For this and many other reasons, I think Riquelme should take the best option he's received, and until now that's Boca Juniors. He shouldn't stay in Europe, only uncertainty will surround him there, rumours followed by more rumours, but never the well deserved concrete offer Riquelme should receive. The concrete offers only go for Diego, Van der Vaart, and Nasri, proven players like Riquelme don't have a place in the Modern-European-Game. If Riquelme keeps this up, he's going to stay in Villarreal until 2009.

    Hey...

Chelsea played well in parts, actually. They never tried to push hard, waited for Derby to come out and attack, which never actually happened.

I was bamboozled by Kalou's 1st half miss, and also shocked to see Essien given a straight red for his innocuous hand in the injury time..

    Re: CHELSEA F.C. OFFICIAL THREAD

First of all, good to see that Jose Mourinho didn't take another Chelsea fan ~ welcome back villainkrishna!

Secondly, to Entusiasta, this shows part of Riquelme's weakness as far as I  can see ~ lack of ambition!  Tottenham called Robinho and Robinho said that they are not a big enough club, so basically don't waste your time as well as many other top players who indicated intentions of plying their trade in Europe...while Riquelme with tail between is legs as you basically said is ambling back to Boca Juniors.  He can go to Espanyol & co. and give a try at the Uefa cup if he wants a  trophy in Europe.  He can go to several teams around Europe like Lyon, Marseille, Porto, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon & other fringe teams who have quality enough to make a push for the Champions league if he wants to make an impression and yet he ends up at Boca Juniors.  Even Inter Milan, Juventus and Bayern might be interested...

Europe do not think,  and i quite agree while for some reason others disagree which is beyond me, that south american tournaments are up to the same standard as European tournaments.  What is odd is that people clearly see what is being meant if you say Europe is superior to Asian, African and American tournaments ~ not that people are saying that the south american leagues are not better than those mentioned, but that Europe is clearly the best.  Riquelme can take a few paths, Anelka gives an excellent path he can take by going out and come back in without leaving European competition and even the Champions league.  If he's saying, but i'm argentine, then Tottenham made him an offer ~ try his luck there and impress like Tevez at West Ham and another big club will come around.

However, similar to how i'm questioning Adriano staying at Inter Milan, i'm questioning Riquelme going back to Boca Juniors.  Why force your old club to go backwards and depend on you when you can free up places for youngsters and play in Europe somewhere...Elano even went so far as to play at Shaktar Donetsk ~ show some fight and ambition.  Ronaldo was knocked down many times and continues to get back up, grow a spine and fight for the right to be great....that's all i'm saying rather than walking around like he's waiting for someone to feel sorry for him and rescue him ~ rescue yourself and someone will push
