Kaka Clarifies Real Madrid Rumours
The star of Milan's Champions League campaign has been repeatedly linked with Real Madrid over the last two months, particularly after it became public that his father had spoken with the Merengue bosses in the middle of June.
However, the play-maker has rubbished that he had ever opened the door to the move, and has pledged to become a symbol of Milan.
"I have never asked Milan to let me go; nor have I signed a new deal, added a release clause, or otherwise looked to leave," he said.
"It is true that I spoke with the Spanish club, but Milan were immediately informed of that fact."
"I want to become the symbol of a great team - and I hope that this team is Milan," he continued.
This comment, made at the first player press conference of the summer, comes 24 hours after Berlusconi declared Kaka the "symbol of Milan" and reiterated that his prize asset was not for sale.
"I am contracted until 2011, and I want to honour my agreement," the Brazilian reiterated.
Asked why he did not categorically rule out a move in June, when the rumours were at their peak, he responded: "I never closed the door on Real Madrid because that door was never open in the first place.
"The issue has always been between Milan and Real Madrid."
Asked about the financial incentives, and about Milan also possibly handing him a new contract, he said: "I learned from a friend of mine a while ago that money is not the only thing that matters."
All is well that ends well, as they say!
