(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has confirmed he has been offered a deal by Real Madrid.

Dudek is leaving Anfield on a free transfer after becoming frustrated at being second choice to Jose Reina.

Though moving to Real would put the Pole in a similar position behind Iker Casillas, the 34-year-old is considering the Spanish giants' offer.

He admits he is honoured to be wanted by the Primera Liga title hopefuls and revealed parts of the deal have already been agreed.

"I must admit that I have received an offer from one of the greatest clubs in the world, if not the greatest one," said Dudek in the Independent.

"I was able to keep it in the dark for a long time because the first contact was established a dozen or so days ago.

"The offer is an honour for me. I am seriously considering it now.

"A few details have already been agreed upon."

(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) According to reports in France, Marseille are considering a move for Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia.

The two clubs have already been locked in negotiations regarding a permanent deal for Djibril Cisse, and France Football claims l'OM are also interested in the Finnish defender.

Liverpool have given no official indication as to whether Hyypia will survive Rafa Benitez's cull at Anfield this summer, but the player has previously revealed he believes he will remain on Merseyside.

If The Reds are reluctant to part company with Hyypia, then Marseille could well turn to former Arsenal defender Pascal Cygan, who now plies his trade with Villarreal in Spain.

Celta Vigo's Gabriel Tamas is also believed to be a prime target as Marseille plan for UEFA Champions League football next season.

(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) Villarreal striker Diego Forlan claims a new Premier League side is chasing his services.

Liverpool and Sunderland have already been linked with moves for the former Manchester United hit-man.

However, the pair could face further competition for his services with the Uruguayan claiming a third club is now chasing his signature.

"It's not only Liverpool who've asked about signing me. In January I rejected a loan move to Sunderland," Forlan said in the Sunday Mirror.

"I also know another Premier League club is asking about my availability.

"I've signed a new deal with Villarreal and they have an exit clause of around £15million in my contract."

Forlan believes his nightmare Red Devils spell is firmly behind him and that he has proved his character in La Liga.

"I could have won a few bets after I failed at United," he continued. "During my time in Spain I've demonstrated I can face up to big challenges."

(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) Liverpool co-owner George Gillett insists the club are making plans to bring in new signings.

The Reds have been quiet in the transfer market so far with reports suggesting Rafa Benitez was becoming disgruntled with the lack of activity.

Gillett is aware of the pressure to bring in new faces and he has rejected rumours of possible unrest with Benitez.

The American tycoon says now that they have tied down key players to new contracts they will turn their attention to signing new players.

"I sense a pressure building to make signings," Gillett told The Mirror. "The fans know that we have huge regard for Rafa.

"We are pleased with Rafa and his strategy.

"The first part of the plan was to sign a number of our existing star players on long-term contracts.

"That has been done. Now we're moving on to phase two, which is bringing players in."

(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) Marseille and Liverpool are close to agreeing a new loan deal for Djibril Cisse, according to L'Equipe.

The France international striker spent last season at the Stade Velodrome and is happy to remain for a further season after l'OM qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Bolton and Benfica have also been linked with a bid for Cisse, but it appears Marseille are set to reach an accord with The Reds.

The deal is likely to include the option for Marseille to sign the 25-year-old front man for a pre-determined fee next summer.

Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly is another priority for l'OM, who are on the lookout for a replacement for Franck Ribery.

Monaco also want the Barca attacker but Marseille sport director Jose Anigo hopes to steal a march on their rivals.

"We are in talks. We are trying but it is not that easy," Anigo said.

Meanwhile, Anigo has revealed he is close to capturing Karim Ziani, having agreed a deal with the winger.

But further talks with Sochaux chairman Jean-Claude Plessis are still required before the move can be finalised.

Anigo added in L'Equipe: "We have an agreement with the player and his agent. Now we are waiting for talks with the Sochaux chairman."

However, former Milan and Paris Saint Germain midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo will not replace Ziani at Sochaux, according to Plessis.

"We dreamt during a moment, but eventually the reality caught up with us," he told Direct 8.

(SOURCE = PLANET FOOTBALL) Liverpool have agreed a fee to sign Yossi Benayoun from West Ham United.

Benayoun has emerged as a target for Rafa Benitez's in recent weeks, despite agreeing a new five-year contract at Upton Park.

But the delay in signing the deal has allowed Liverpool to steal in with a suitable offer for the Israel international.

Benitez revealed last week that the Hammers had said 'no' to his club's original offer, but a fee now appears to have been settled upon.

Reports have mooted a price of £4million for Benayoun, who has made 72 appearances for West Ham since joining from Racing Santander two years ago.

His impending switch to Anfield follows the completion of the £7.5million deal which took Craig Bellamy in the opposite direction.

When quizzed on Liverpool's interest last month, Benayoun admitted he was 'honoured' to be wanted by the UEFA Champions League finalists.

(SOURCE = FOX SPORTS FOOTBALL AUSTRALIA) Voronin shines on Reds debut.

UKRAINE striker Andriy Voronin scored twice to shine on his Liverpool debut as the English Premier League side defeated German Bundesliga team Werder Bremen 3-2 in a pre-season match.

Voronin, 27, who signed a four-year deal to moveh from Bayer Leverkusen to play for Rafael Benitez's team, scored once in each half and was a constant threat to the Bremen defence.

Liverpool, the 2005 European Cup winner and the losing finalist this year, warmed up for the match in Grenchen, Switzerland, with two friendly wins over British minnows Wrexham (3-2) and Crewe (3-0),.

Benitez also debuted to striker Fernando Torres, signed from Atletico Madrid, and midfield player Ryan Babel, from Ajax Amsterdam.

The game got off to a lively start when Voronin intercepted a pass and rounded Bremen goalkeeper Tim Weise to give the Reds a lead after just three minutes.

But Bremen was level three minutes later, when a shot clipped the post and forward Kevin Schindler headed home.

Liverpool's Norway midfield player John Arne Riise put the visitors ahead with a long-range free-kick just seven minutes later.

Voronin then clipped the crossbar with a shot early in the second half, but he made no mistake with a well-struck shot on 61 minutes.

The Ukrainian made way for Torres to make his debut soon afterwards, and Bremen pulled a late goal back when substitute Frank Loening saw his shot deflected into the net by Liverpool's Stephen Darby on 81 minutes.

    Re: NEWSROOM

Rafael Benitez drew plenty of positives from Liverpool's Barclays Asia Trophy performances, not least the return to fitness of Harry Kewell.

The winger has seen the last two seasons on Merseyside ravaged by injury, a torn abductor muscle forcing the Australian into an early exit from the Reds' Champions League triumph in 2005 before a groin tear in the 2006 FA Cup final was subsequently compounded by a foot problem.

As a result, the 28-year-old was sidelined for almost a year and only made his comeback at the start of May with two substitute appearances at the back end of Liverpool's Premier League campaign.

However, Kewell played a full part in Australia's exploits in Thailand and Vietnam during the Asian Cup over the summer and immediately linked up with the rest of his team-mates in Hong Kong after the Socceroos were knocked out in the last eight on penalties by Japan.

He also started both games against South China on Tuesday and Portsmouth last night - producing lively displays - and has now spent the best part of a month playing in high temperatures and humidity in preparing for the new season.

Having shown the form that persuaded Liverpool to pay £5million for his services in between his spells on the treatment table, Kewell has remained firmly part of Benitez's plans at Anfield.

The coming campaign is a crucial one for the winger as he is entering the final year of his contract and will therefore hope all injury woes are behind him.

And if indeed they are, Benitez believes Kewell will have a crucial role to play this term.

"I think he will be an important player," he said.

"It's like we are signing a new player. Harry has had problems for the last two seasons but you know that he has the ability and the quality that we need.

"To play two games in a row was difficult and I was really pleased with him."

Liverpool finished runners-up in the Asia Trophy after losing out to Premier League rivals Portsmouth on penalties.

And Benitez felt the tournament has proved to be extremely beneficial as it allowed the Spaniard to get a better measure of his raft of summer signings.

"I think it has been useful," he added.

"During this tournament I could see the level of the players and also I like to see if they can be competitive in each position

"The games and the training sessions and the relationships between the players always can give you a better idea about the players."

Benitez also insisted he expects big-money signing Fernando Torres to hit the ground running when the Reds kick-off their Premier League campaign at Aston Villa on August 11.

The Spaniard wasted a good chance to break the deadlock midway through the second half against Pompey before missing his spot kick in the shoot-out.

But Benitez still believes there is plenty of time to iron out any kinks in his striker's game.

"I think Torres can improve," Benitez said.

"We have two more weeks and also his understanding with his team-mates will get better so I'm sure he will improve."

Torres And Gerrard Fashion Liverpool Win

Fernando Torres scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt and Steven Gerrard scored a stunner from outside the box as Liverpool saw off Shanghai Shenhua 2-0 in the first game of the Rotterdam tournament.

Torres scored with a deft touch following a great assist from Yossi Benayoun - one of the players of the match - while Gerrard scored with a stunning lob into the far corner from outside the box, on an overall positive outing for the Reds.

If Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was looking for an injury-free workout that didn't over-tax his players, but also yielded a win, a clean-sheet and a goal for new striker Fernando Torres, then this game certainly ticked all the boxes.

The game was played at a liesurely pace throughout between teams who were somewhat mis-matched in terms of squad quality, but Liverpool did all that was asked of them, and emerged with some significant plus-points.

Momo Sissoko and Yossi Benayoun struck up an understanding in midfield, Sissoko running the game until he was withdrawn and Benayoun setting up the first goal with a sublime pass from the edge of the area that Torres latched onto, taking a couple of touches before beating Zhang with a deft dink into the net on 13 minutes.

The goal must have been a huge psychological boost to the Spanish striker, although Liverpool did not respond to taking the lead by going for the jugular. The feeling always was that the Premiership side could step up a gear and punish Shanghai at any time, but they played comfortably within themselves.

Indeed, for a while they took their foot off the gas, allowing Shanghai into the game. After Torres had gone down in the box under a challenge from Sun Xiang, who was rightly not penalised, sloppy defending enabled Li Weifeng in and he nearly embarrassed Liverpool, but goalkeeper David Martin got a foot in the way anf it went wide of the post. Li Weifeng then cut in from the left but made it easy for Martins with a soft shot.

After the break the tempo remained sedate, but Liverpool were dominating proceedings. There was a big cheer from the crowd when Steven Gerrard and local boy Dirk Kuyt came on for Sissoko and Peter Crouch, respectively, and both were soon involved, although not before Hamilton Record, once of Middlesbrough, caused a flutter with a header from a right-wing corner.

However, Gerrard soon showed his class with Liverpool's second goal. On 64 minutes, within three minutes of coming on, the skipper made his mark after receiving the ball on the edge of the area, creating space with a deft turn to shake off his marker, spotting  Zhang off his line and chipping the ball unerringly over the keeper and into the net.

Kuyt then pressed his claims with a bright cameo performance, leading the Reds' line with intelligence and graft and setting up half-chances for his team-mates.

The game ended with Liverpool still comfortably in control, and able to move on smoothly to Sunday's meeting with hosts Feyenoord.

    Liverpool vs. Chelsea Preview

    Liverpool vs. Chelsea Preview

Liverpool and Chelsea renew rivalries in arguably the most attractive fixture to date in the fledgling Premier League season.

The two clubs have locked horns an incredible 15 times in all competitions during the past three seasons so familiarity will be the name of the game at Anfield on Sunday.

    ANDRIY VORONIN

Liverpool warmed up for the visit of last year's runners-up with a professional display in their 1-0 Champions League first leg third qualifying round victory over French side Toulouse in midweek.

Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin's first start following his free transfer move from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer was capped by a fine 25-yard strike which settled the match.

However, despite hailing the performance of the stocky frontman, Reds boss Rafael Benitez is expected to recall his first choice strike pairing of Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt as he continues his policy of squad rotation.

Torres, a £20million capture from Atletico Madrid during the close season, and Netherlands international Kuyt started the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening day of the new Premier League season last weekend.

Xabi Alonso, John Arne Riise, Daniel Agger and Jermaine Pennant could also be recalled to the line-up in place of the likes of Momo Sissoko, Javier Mascherano, Peter Crouch and Yossi Benayoun who all started in midweek.

Revenge could well be on the minds of the Chelsea players when they travel to Merseyside on Sunday.

Liverpool dumped the Blues out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage last season and also inflicted an ultimately costly 2-0 defeat on Jose Mourinho's side in the league towards the end of January.

Domestically Chelsea have started the new season in superb form as they produced an entertaining display in the opening day 3-2 win over Birmingham City, before coming from behind to defeat Reading 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

After the midweek match, Mourinho allayed fears over John Terry's fitness by claiming his skipper will be back to face Liverpool in Sunday's showdown at Anfield.

The Blues and England captain returned to full training on Wednesday following a knee injury and will provide Mourinho with a timely boost after fellow central defender Ricardo Carvalho picked up an injury during the Reading game.

Carvalho limped off during the first half and is expected to be out for some time, but Terry will partner summer signing Tal Ben Haim when he makes his first competitive appearance of the new season at the weekend.

Last season's top-scorer Didier Drogba did make his first start of the new campaign in midweek after replacing summer signing Claudio Pizarro and will definitely lead the line against Liverpool.

However, Michael Essien (knee) remains doubtful after being omitted in midweek, while Michael Ballack (ankle), Wayne Bridge (hip), Andriy Shevchenko (groin) and Claude Makelele (knee) are all definite absentees.

    Liverpool vs. Sunderland Preview

    Liverpool vs. Sunderland Preview

The Sunderland players will take to the field against Liverpool in Saturday's early kick-off with Roy Keane's words from last weekend still ringing in their ears.

Keane lambasted his players after their produced an error-strewn performance in a 3-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic which included handing the home side two cheap penalties.

Roy Keane Sunderland 2007/08 profile size
    ROY KEANE

"Overall the game was disappointing, we gave three sloppy goals away but I found out about different people," he fumed.

"All the players are invited on this journey with us but one or two will fall by the wayside." Much of the Black Cats boss' ire was believed to be aimed at Dwight Yorke and Anthony Stokes, who were both replaced at half-time at the JJB Stadium.

Neither looks set to feature for the visit of the in-form Reds, with Liam Miller and David Connolly the likely replacements in midfield and up front respectively At the back, £1million summer signing Russell Anderson should make his first start in the Premier League, but Carlos Edwards will miss out after picking up a hamstring injury during the first week of the season.

Liverpool return to action for the first time since the controversy surrounding their 1-1 draw with Chelsea last Sunday.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez and captain Steven Gerrard voiced their criticism at referee Rob Styles after the Hampshire official incorrectly awarded the visitors a spot-kick at Anfield which was duly converted by Frank Lampard as Chelsea claimed an unlikely point.

Styles' punishment was to be dropped by referees' chief Keith Hackett from this weekend's programme, but that will have come as little consolation for a furious Benitez, who saw his side drop their first points of the new season.

Gerrard looks set to miss out after sitting out England's friendly with Germany in midweek with a fractured toe, meaning the Spanish coach cannot stick with the same line-up for the third straight domestic game.

Fernando Torres opened his Liverpool account against Chelsea and appears to have struck up a good understanding with strike partner Dirk Kuyt, while England hopeful Jermaine Pennant has started the season on the right of midfield looking like he has a point to prove.

Benitez's only other injury absentees are Harry Kewell (groin) and Fabio Aurelio (Achilles).
