    Downfall of La Liga

When Serie A broke down due to the scandals, every one predicted la liga to cash on its absence. Though it got its fair share of players moving into spain, the quality of teams who have come into CL is hardly impressive.

    1. Madrid's been in a free fall right from 2003 and it is no wonder that the once-mighty santiago bernabeu crowd had to watch the 2 goals conceded by the team with utter disbelief. Surpraisingly, this came after real took the lead. But madrid was nowhere to be seen in the second half which was dominated by a another struggling side, munich. Those two goals have already plotted the madrid's exit from the most lucrative competition in europe. Last year, a rejuvenated arsenal side was enough to sink the merengues by a goal which ultimately led to their exit.

    2. Barca was a big let-down this season. They are very inconsistent, complacent and even arrogant at times in the la liga games. Their position in the table is flattering, indeed it is. If we see the league table where the top teams are separated by a few points shows that all are inconsistent as well...

Valencia is their only hope there, but no one predict anything about this side.

any specific reasons for this situation.....your suggestions..

there is always hope. look at sevilla. its not a one horse race for barca this year isnt it.

Another thing is madrid. if they can play more attacking and attractive football they will ultimately draw in bigger crowds and a bigger world fan base. (as if they dont have one already) The coach that can do that for them (in my opinion) is Joachim Löw. Or any German coach that can produce a side with no fear. As we saw in the world cup. They were just overcome by the number 1 side...ItalyStick out tongue [:P]

But in the end, the winner would have got 70 odd points which wouldn't give a good picture at all. Actually it is only in this season, the inconsistency of the top teams could be felt by everyone. Now it lacks a powerhouse like Chelsea, ManUtd who can sweep through the europe at ease. Barca's loss should have been madrid's gain, but it hasn't happened. Simply I don't understand what happened to madrid. A slide for a superpower like madrid is a serious loss to football in general, isn't it?

I totaly agree, It does seem that the Spanish leagues Giants are failing...

But does this make for a more exciting open league, with Sevilla, Zaragoza pushing on looking to challenge.  As well as Valencia making their mark again.

Obviously in the Champions League they may not be as strong, and their is less of a chance they will win agaisnt the likes of, Chelsea, Man United, Inter Milan even Lyon who are a quality outfit.  With Liverpool beating Barcelona, it proves that they are not at the high standards they have set them self.  Valencia do have a good chance agaisnt Inter, but couldn't see them beating many other teams.

And its been picked up by Ryan Giggs,
Yorke has made a diagnal run,
    Theirs support in the centre,
    but hes past Keown...
    past Dixon...
AND HAS SCORED A SENSATIONAL GOAL!!!

Definitely It looks more exciting now. I've believed that a 2-horse race is not good from the entertainment point of view.

But as you have mentioned, these teams who are able to do well in the league can't do the same in europe where the team depth, consistency are the more important things. When a team like seville come across Inter/Arsenal even Bremen it will face inadequacies in their team. Thats why it is essential that every league has 2-3 big teams who dare to spend a lot on players and play it big in the more lucrative european competitions.

Real Madrid will always be up there, their fan base and bank acount is to big for them to fall into real problems.  Cappello seems to be loosing the plot, the players are in disaray, and half there new signings from last summer want to leave.

Barcelona look like they could be coming to the end of their cycle, Ronaldinho, Deco and Messi there best players are all being linked with moves away.  But thats not set in stone.

Valencia could push on, a few good signings and if they can keep hold of Villa, they will be able to produce class performances week in week out.  Bringing back Pablo Aimar for instance, and a new centre back with Ayala'd depature imanent.  Chivu would be a good choice.

Sevilla, Zaragoza and the ever promising Athletico Madrid (who neva fufil this promise) don't seem to far off the pace of the main three.  Zaragoza and Sevilla have good young squads, same with Athletico, but will Torres still be there next season, will Daniel Alavs be with Sevilla, and can Zaragoza keep Aimar fit and try to secure Milito as a premanent signing.

Perhaps not the down fall of La Liga, but a revamp!

i suppose a more even league can be better than a league with dominating sides like inter, lyon, chelsea and manutd.

I do think that Capello is a good choice for the top post. But the people should give some more time for this man. Look at his record everywhere, which is better than any other individual out there. Didn't he give them success during his last stint there?

What madrid need at this moment is an efficient manager. Capello's tactics wouldn't sound attractive to the purists, but they are proved out to be effective and efficient. Asking a guy like Wenger to manage madrid would result in change in style of the game, but won't give them the much-needed RESULTS. Results are those which matter the most and Capello is the one who can give them that.

An even league wouldn't allow any team to concentrate in Europe. Just take the case of Milan two seasons back. They were fighting for the scudetto with juve which was close all the time. At the same time, they reached the finals of CL. But they couldn't win either of them. The reason, EXHAUSTION. When you know that a string of teams are just behind your ass in the league, can you perform freely in europe? You can't. It is an exciting prospect, but would degrade country's representation in europe.

Its probibly not all Cappello, although he has done and said some stupid things, like with Beckahm and not playing Cassano.  The board at Real Madrid are just stupid and the presidents an idiot, no doubt he will be having to look over his shoulder, thinking about what stupid signing they think they can bring in or forcing him in to certian desions.  All I am doing is speculating but it wouldn't suprise me.

Another note, any one watch the Barcelona - Zaragoza match.  I missed it my TV was messing around.

If you don't believe capello can do it, who do you think can do the miracle? Fox mentioned that it could be joachim Low, which would sound good to most. But the risk will be he'll try to play attractive football which is gonna be good to watch. But at the same time, it can't guarantee you the results which real need the most. Arsenal has been attracting football all over the years, but what have they achieved to be pround of? an EPL title and a lucky FA cup. It would be enough for the ever-humble arsenal board which has never asked wenger to bring silverwares. But it can't be enough for the insatiable madrid folks.

I think it goes deeper than the managemt.  The whole running of the club, with presidents and candiates saying things to get votes underminds the manager.  An english style system where the manager is given full control of the team and transfers.  Cappello got Canavaro, Emerson and Diarra who were very good signings.  Woodgate also previously but injuries didnt help.
Real Madrids fans demand attractive football, and unfortunatly boo any thing else, is which out of order.  I don't see the board changing there ways any time soon, they will try and bring in superstars to wow people with Kaka and Cristano Ronaldo on their shopping lists.  So its going to take a manger who will take risk.. so this Joachim sounds like the ticket.  Cappello should stick to Italy.

Real Madrid need a squad that is...
70% Spanish players, 10% Brazilan, 10% Argentian and the other 10% by either French, English or Dutch players.

Like you said it is really tough to play infront of the highly demanding fans of the real. But at the same time, we need to appreciate their passion, coz it's their fourth season without silverware which is sounds awful for a club like real. Yet I simply can't understand your 70% spanish logic. Just explain how it will help the things to improve there? If you justify it, how do you think they can get that many spaniards to play at the highest level?
